On 1 July 2024, Transfer Credit replaced the classic Free Transfer! The info below is for bookings made on or after 1 July 2024 that qualify for Transfer Credit!
Getting to the Spaceships depots in Auckland or Christchurch just got more flexible. We've removed the Free Transfer option and replaced it with Transfer Credit, the most flexible way to select transfer option and arrange your own transfer with some help from us. This is even better than what many travellers call a free transfer: we're giving you transfer credit that you can use in any way you want. And this is how it works.
Who gets Transfer Credit?
Transfer Credit will be added automatically to bookings of 28 hire days or more, meaning that if you hire a campervan for 28 days or more you qualify for Transfer Credit.
What's this Transfer Credit thing?
In your booking details, you'll spot 'Transfer Credit' with a negative amount. This isn't a mistake – it's our gift to help you get to our depot however you like. It's already deducted from your total, so think of it as extra cash in your pocket to get you rolling!
Auckland Transfer Credit: -$40
Christchurch Transfer Credit: -$20

Stay connected: WiFi & Mobile Data (SIM/eSIM)
Both Auckland and Christchurch airports offer free WiFi to get you online.
For mobile data from the moment you arrive, get an eSIM for travellers from Saily - use discount code SPECIAL5 for an extra 5% off their travel eSIM plans - from the famous Nord Security company. They offer various data packages for New Zealand. Saily eSIM is a great alternative for data needs and can be activated before you arrive.
And yes, there is a free local SIM card included with your booking, which will be waiting for you in your Spaceships campervan. You just need to top it up or add a data and/or minutes package. This can only be done when picking up your campervan, or after pick-up.
The two main differences between an eSIM for travellers and a local SIM card are:
eSIM aka a digital SIM card vs a plastic SIM card that you manually pop into your phone
eSIM only provides mobile data, while a local SIM can give you mobile minutes for calling and mobile data
The eSIM for travellers is a great option for travellers that prefer a digital SIM card that only gives access to data and that is activated before arrival so you'll have mobile data from the moment you enter New Zealand. It is an alternative to the local SIM card that comes with your Spaceships campervan, which is an physical yet "empty SIM card" that you need to top up or add a minute/data package.
Reminder: you'll get an extra discount on any of the Saily eSIM plans.
