What is a valid driving licence?
That is not something we determine, that is determined by NZ Police. The short version is: if your licence is in English you don't need a translation or International Driving Licence, which are just fancy words for "translation".

Do I need to have my licence for X months?
No, as long as your licence is valid and you are at least 18, it is fine.
A provisional licence is also accepted, as long as you drive to the conditions of your licence and are at least 18 year of age.
