Setting up the rear awning to extend the bed outwards (partially) and to sleep outside is super easy. Have a look at the tips, images and video below to see how to attach the rear awning to your New Zealand Spaceships campervan. Or see the How-To Road Trip Tips on our website.

Using the rear awning to extend bed outwards

All Spaceships campervans in New Zealand, except the Dream Sleeper Mini, provide two sleeping options:

  1. Fully inside with the boot closed

  2. Partially extended outwards and using the rear awning to cover the open boot

Extra tips for setting up the rear awning

If you aren't as tall as a basketball player, and feel like the rear awning is hard to set up due to your height, here are some extra tips for you.

  1. Try opening the tailgate only halfway when fitting the top section of the rear awning. This lowers the height just enough to help you get the awning over the top.

  2. Once both sides are hooked over the top lip of the boot, you can then open the tailgate fully and secure everything as normal.

And that is how easy it is to set up the bed to be able to sleep outside. Well partially outside, under the rear awning covering the boot like a tent. A simple yet fantastic piece of camping gear, the rear awning is custom-made and is included with most Spaceships campervan models in New Zealand.
