Does the campervan insurance cover personal injury if I am involved in an accident?

In New Zealand, the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) provides no-fault personal injury cover for everyone, including residents and overseas travellers. This means if you’re injured in an accident - or if you injure someone else - ACC will cover the medical costs for all parties involved.

Because of ACC, campervan insurance won’t include personal injury coverage, as this is already handled by ACC. However, our campervan insurance is still essential for covering vehicle damage, theft, and third-party property damage (e.g., repairs to another vehicle or a fence you hit).

While ACC provides accident coverage, it does not replace travel insurance.

Travel insurance is still recommended to cover:

  • Medical evacuation or repatriation.

  • Illnesses, pre-existing conditions, and non-accident medical issues.

  • Trip cancellations, lost luggage, and adventure activity risks.

  • Liability for property damage or legal costs (not covered by ACC).

ACC and Spaceships campervan insurance serve different purposes.

  • ACC = personal injuries

  • campervan insurance = vehicle/property risks

  • travel insurance = everything else.

All three complement each other.
